As many as 37% of the 52,200 foreign tourists who visited Moldova in the first three months of 2024 arrived from Ukraine, 21% came from Romania, 8.8% from the U.S., while Israeli tourists accounted for 3.5%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
The number of foreign tourists staying in Moldova in the three months through March rose 37% on the year.
Tourists booked 227,100 overnights in Moldova in the January-March period, up 6.5% in annual terms. Out of these, foreign visitors booked 95,500 overnights, up by 8.2% year-on-year.
During the first quarter, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the country's accommodation facilities was 5.1 days, while foreign tourists spent 2.8 days on average.
The number of tourists staying in Moldova rose by an annual 17% in 2023, reaching 391,500.
