June 20 (SeeNews) - Norwegian telecommunications group Telenor has said it covers 90% of Serbia's population and 60% of the country's territory with 4G network.
Telenor's 4G coverage in Serbia is more than the coverage of the other two operators combined, the company said in a statement on Monday, quoting data from a study of Serbia's Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (Ratel).
Insight into the data for 2016 reveals that Telenor has built 730 4G base stations and plans to increase their number by the end of this year, Telenor said.
"Having in mind that more than half of total mobile internet traffic in Serbia goes through Telenor network, we want to make sure our customers have superior data experience, wherever they are. RATEL report for this year shows we have succeeded in that. Population coverage, signal quality and Internet speed are the most important network features for each customer, and our priority is to enable experience consistency at anytime, anywhere in Serbia," the CEO of Telenor Serbia, Ingeborg Ofsthus, said in the statement.
According to the report, Telenor has the biggest number of base stations in Serbia – more than 7,000.
In May, Telenor said it had started operating a 4G+ network in seven towns in Serbia, providing up to two and a half times faster Internet and improved quality signal to its local customers.
