January 30 (SeeNews) - Slovenian state-controlled motorway company DARS said it awarded a 55.5 million euro ($60.4 million) contract for the construction of two sections of the Third Development Axis motorway to Austrian civil engineering group Strabag.
Strabag will build sections B and H of the northern part of the Third Development Axis that covers the area around the Skal lake and part of Konovo access road, DARS said in a notice posted on the website of Slovenia's public procurement portal last week.
The Austrian company placed the lowest bid in the tender for the construction of the sections, DARS said.
Slovenia started the construction of the Third Development Axis in 2020. The motorway will connect the northern Koroska region to Dolenjska region in the south. The northern part of the Third Development Axis is divided into eight sections, of which the work on section D, or the Gaberka section, has already been completed. Work is underway on section F in the municipality of Slovenjgraska.
In October 2019, the government said it will provide a loan guarantee of up to 360 million euro to DARS to finance the construction of parts of the Third Development Axis.
