March 3 (SeeNews) - Slovenian motorway company DARS expects Austrian civil engineering group Strabag to start works on a 55.5 million euro ($58.8 million) project for the construction of two sections of the Third Development Axis motorway in March, DARS said.
State-controlled DARS signed a contract with Strabag for the construction of sections B and H of the northern part of the Third Development Axis that covers the area around the Skal Lake and part of Konovo access road on March 2, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
The Austrian company will be introduced to the project after submitting a bank guarantee and the contractual deadline for the execution of the works is 30 months, DARS said.
The works on section B will include the construction of a 105 m-long viaduct over Skal lake as well as deviations of roads and recreational routes, whereas lot H involves the construction of a 142 m-long viaduct, a 497 m-long single-tube tunnel, two bridges over the Paka river, the construction of supporting structures and the arrangement of an access road, DARS noted.
DARS awarded the contract to Strabag in January, as the Austrian company placed the lowest bid in the tender for the construction works.
Slovenia started the construction of the Third Development Axis in 2020. The motorway will connect the northern Koroska region to Dolenjska region in the south. The northern part of the Third Development Axis is divided into eight sections, of which the work on section D, or the Gaberka section, has already been completed. Work is underway on section F in the municipality of Slovenj Gradec.
