July 20 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian Metropolitan, the state-owned operator of the Sofia subway, opened on Wednesday a new 1.3 km metro section with one station called Vitosha, the transport ministry said.
The cost for the construction of the section totalled 21 million euro ($23.1 million), the ministry recalled in its statement.
According to a previous statement of the transport ministry, the launch of the new section should increase the number of people using the Sofia subway by over 20,000 daily to 350,000 on working days.
With the new section, Sofia's subway now has a total length of 40 km and 35 stations.
