January 31 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's wine production declined by 19% in the 2021/2022 marketing year, to 589,000 hectolitres, the statistical office said on Tuesday.
Wines with protected designation of origin totalled 375,000 hectolitres or 64% of total wine production, the statistical office said in a statement.
White wine accounted for 71% of total wine produced in Slovenia in the 2021/2022 marketing year.
As a result of the decline in total wine production, the self-sufficiency rate fell by 12 percentage points to 83%.
Wine consumption in Slovenia totalled 711,000 hectolitres in the 2021/2022 marketing year. The average consumption per capita was 33 litres, of which white wines represented 72%, or 24 litres.
