Slovenia's Jan-May trade deficit expands to 1.8 bln euro

July 9 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's trade balance deficit expanded to 1.779 billion euro ($1.37 billion) in the first five months of 2024, from 757.3 million euro in the like period of 2023, the country's statistical office said.

Exports in the first five months of 2024 grew 10.2% on the year to 25.448 billion euro, while imports rose 12.8% to 27.227 billion euro, the statistical office, SURS, said in a statement.

The European Union was Slovenia’s main trading partner in the first five months, absorbing 13.163 billion euro of the country's exports and providing 13.523 billion euro of its imports.

In May alone, Slovenia's exports went up 2.4% on the year to 5.037 billion euro, while imports grew 5.1% to 5.573 billion euro, resulting in a 535.8 million euro trade deficit for the month.
