September 19 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's competitions agency (AVK) said that the acquisition of 13 Sport Klub channels by private multi-play telecoms and media provider United Group from S. C. IKO Poljska is incompatible with competition rules.
AVK ruled that United Group must sell the programmes within six months and that it may not launch sports TV programs for the next three years, it said in a statement on Tuesday.
Local media reported that AVK took the case under the microscope when subscribers of Siol TV temporarily lost Sports Klub because Adria Media, which exclusively broadcasts these programs and is part of the United Group, demanded better financial conditions from Telekom Slovenije.
United Group has laid over 15,000 km of fibre-optic cable in the region, reaching 1.77 million homes and supporting 50,000 businesses. It employs more than 3,400.
