January 10 (SeeNews) - Slovakian provider of payment solutions for online media Piano Media said it has been hired by a group of Slovenian publishers to launch a national pay-wall on January 16.
Eight major Slovenian publishers including almost all of the major daily newspapers with 11 online media sites, will place a variety of sections and individual articles behind the pay-wall when they join Piano's Slovenian system, the Slovakian company said in a press release on Monday.
Slovenia’s digital readers, using Piano’s log-in system and payment gateways, will have to spend 4.89 euro ($6.3) per month to access content behind the pay-wall.
“We have been looking for ways to monetise our content,” the CEO of Slovenian newspaper, web portal and media house Delo, Jurij Giacomelli, said in the statement.
Along with Delo's national news website, delo.si, the media house will include its tabloid web-portal, slovenskenovice.si, in the project. Other participating publishers include national daily newspaper Dnevnik; regional publication Vecer; the Krater group magazine publishers with their sports daily Ekipa, their regional publication Dolenjski List and their auto magazine Autobild; tabloid news portal Pozareport.si; regional publications Primorske Novice and Gorenjski Glas.
Publishers choose what content will be put behind the pay-wall and what benefits digital readers will receive. Some will provide ad-free versions of their sites, while others will offer premium access to their content before it is released to the public later in the day. Added fees for discussion forums and archived articles are among the other options publishers are considering.
