December 21 (SeeNews) - The exports in Serbia's information technology (IT) sector outpaced those of the country's agriculture sector, traditionally a top performer, prime minister Ana Brnabic said.
The IT sector exports reached 1.47 billion euro ($1.66 billion) in the first 10 months of 2021, Brnabic told private broadcaster Happy TV on Monday.
"The IT sector has a larger share in [Serbia's] gross domestic product than, say, construction," Brnabic added, without quoting figures.
Speaking at a news conference upon the opening of a science and technology park in the city of Novi Sad last week, Brnabic said the number of employees in the IT industry will exceed 40,000 by the end of the year.
In 2016, Serbia's ministry of public administration said the government is looking to increase annual net exports of the IT sector from 400 million euro at the time to 1.5 billion euro.
