October 20 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government has transformed the Stark Arena multi-purpose hall in Belgrade into a temporary field hospital to face a new wave of COVID-19 cases in the country, it said.
The field hospital has 510 beds available and a staff of 10 doctors and 20 medical technicians which may be expanded depending on the spread of the pandemic, its medical coordinator Predrag Bogdanovic said in a press release on Monday.
On Friday, the Serbian COVID-19 crisis group recommended to citizens to wear face masks also outdoors, in order to limit the spread of the disease.
Serbia has so far confirmed 36,282 Covid-19 cases and 778 fatalities, with 122 new cases reported on Monday. A total of 408 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised as of October 19 and 24 of them were on mechanical breathing.
The government used Stark Arena as a temporary field hospital during the previous peaks of the pandemic in April and May, as well as in July and August.
