BELGRADE (Serbia), April 24 (SeeNews) – Gross value added (GVA) in Serbia's construction industry in the first quarter of 2018 is estimated to have increased by 7.4% on the year, as the activity in the sector intensifies, the infrastructure ministry said.
The GVA in Serbia's construction sector is expected to increase by 5.4% in full year 2018, an increase 0.1 percentage points higher than the rise of GVA in agriculture, the infrastructure ministry said in a statement on Monday.
The number of active construction sites in Serbia currently stands at 25,228, almost 5,000 more than at the end of 2017 and double the number at the end of 2015 when there were a total of 12,800 sites.
The infrastructure ministry will directly participate in the execution of infrastructure projects with a total value of 68.7 billion dinars ($710 million/581 million euro) in 2018, while the government-supported programme for construction of apartments for members of security and defence forces will represent an additional incentive to the sector, it said.
The number of building permits issued in Serbia rose by 45.7% last year, according to the country's statistical office. The estimated value of planned projects increased by 60.3% in 2017.
