Serbia expects to complete the reconstruction of the Novi Sad-Subotica section of the railway line linking Belgrade to Hungary's Budapest by the end of 2024, President Aleksandar Vucic said.
Works are progressing ahead of schedule because the contractors have done everything possible to speed up the project, Vucic said during a visit to the construction site on Saturday, according to a press release from his office.
The $1.16 billion (1.07 billion euro) reconstruction works contract was awarded to China Railway International (CRI) and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) in 2018, and work on the section began in November 2021. Once completed, the 108-kilometre railway section will allow train speeds of up to 200km/h.
