May 14 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to invest 800 million euro ($865 million) in the construction of a high-speed road linking Sombor, in the country's north, to the Romanian border, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic has said.
The government is preparing the project documentation for the construction of the road, Mihajlovic said in a press release on Wednesday.
In November, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said the government plans to start the construction of a high-speed road linking Sombor to the town of Kikinda, located near the Nakovo border crossing with Romania.
"I believe that it is realistic to start the construction of the high-speed road in the next three or four years," Vucic said back then.
Serbia will start the construction of motorways with a total length of 400 km in the short term and will have the longest network of highways in Southeast Europe by the end of 2025, Mihajlovic said in January.
