November 17 (SeeNews) - Serbia said on Thursday it presented a project for the construction of Belgrade Metro before representatives of French civil engineering groups Alstom and Egis.
Belgrade city authorities have developed a master plan for the project and are now working on a feasibility study, Belgrade mayor Sinisa Mali said in a statement. A detailed plan for the construction of the underground railway will be presented soon, he added.
Belgrade government also presented an integrated transport system strategic plan, which contains proposals for the possible routes of the metro line, the Serbian government said in a separate statement.
On November 6, Serbian prime minister Aleksandar Vucic and his French counterpart Manuel Valls signed a memorandum of understanding on the construction of the Belgrade Metro. Under the terms of the MoU, both governments will co-finance the project, which is to be completed in three and a half years.
Serbian media reported in October that the construction of a metro line in Belgrade is anticipated to begin at the end of 2018 if all preconditions are met. The media reports suggested that Russian companies will participate in the project.
