January 19 (SeeNews) - Serbian minister without portfolio in charge of innovation, Nenad Popovic, said on Friday that Russian technology company Yandex has expressed interest in setting foot on the Serbian market.
Yandex is interested in the development of IT products and the smart city concept in Serbia, Popovic said, as quoted in a statement by the Serbian government.
The Russian company is also interested in making digital navigation maps of Serbia, which would serve as a basis for all other digital cartography services that can be developed in the country, Popovic said after a meeting with representatives of Yandex in Moscow.
In December, Russian state-run high-tech industrial products manufacturer Rostec said it signed an agreement with Serbia's government to join forces in the development of smart city solutions.
The agreement envisages sharing best practices, staff exchange and joint design, production and implementation of high-tech goods and services. Research groups including specialists from the two countries will work on project implementation, Rostec said back in December.
