February 4 (SeeNews) - Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc on Wednesday nominated Dan Nica, Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the European Affairs Department and state regulators, as interim Interior Minister, following Liviu Dragnea's resignation on Monday.
Boc sent the nomination to President Traian Basescu for approval on Wednesday, the government's press office said in a statement.
The statement added that the Prime Minister has notified the heads of the two chambers of Romania's parliamentto amend the government’s structure in order to allow Nica to cumulate the two positions.
Dragnea, endorsed as Interior Minister on January 20, resigned earlier this week saying underfunding would prevent his ministry from carrying out the policies it had planned.
Dan Nica was Romanian acting Interior Minister between January 13 and January 20 after Gabriel Oprea resigned in disagreement with his Social Democratic Party, PSD, over nominations of key officials in his ministry.
A coalition cabinet of the centre-right Democratic-Liberal Party, PD-L, and leftist PSD took office in Romania following general elections held on November 30.
