September 29 (SeeNews) - Romanian insurer Allianz-Tiriac's gross written premiums (GWP) increased by 11% on the year in the first six months of 2023, reaching 1.7 billion lei ($361.9 million/341.7 million euro).
The company's net profit amounted to more than 186 million lei in the first quarter, Allianz-Tiriac said in a press release on Thursday.
Allianz-Tiriac saw a 17% yearly increase in life insurance premiums during the first half of the year. These premiums now make up 10% of the company's total premiums. By the end of June, more than 170,000 individuals and businesses had Allianz-Tiriac life insurance policies, marking a 22% increase from June 2022.
Payments to clients in the form of compensations and allowances totalled over 600 million lei in the first six months of 2023, compared to over 526 million lei in the prior-year period of 2022.
Allianz-Tiriac was the second biggest Romanian insurer at the end of 2022, with a 17.4% market share and second to Groupama Asigurari, according to the country's financial regulator, ASF.
