October 5 (SeeNews) - The Romanian government said that it has reached an agreement with trade unions on an increase of the gross minimum wage to 2,550 lei ($598/515 euro) per month from 2,230 lei as of January 1 next year.
In net terms, the minimum wage will rise by 10% to 1,524 lei per month, the government said at a press briefing on Monday evening .
"We have a 250 lei increase in gross value of the minimum wage compared to the current level and a 138 lei increase at the net level, and the hike will impact a total of 1.970 million employees," labour minister Raluca Turcan said in a televised statement following a cabinet meeting on Monday evening.
The government last raised the minimum gross salary in January, to 2,300 lei per month from 2,230 lei.
Nearly 1.2 million employees, or some 23% of all active employees in Romania, receive the minimum gross salary.
