December 22 (SeeNews) - A consortium comprising Romanian construction company company Arcada and French multinational rolling stock manufacturer Alstom signed a 1.53 billion lei ($331 million/ 312 million euro) contract for the upgrade of the Aghires-Poieni railway section in Romania, national railway operator CFR said.
Works on the 36.5 km section have to be designed and executed within 42 months, CFR said in a press release on Wednesday.
The financing will be provided from non-reimbursable EU funds under Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The infrastructure and superstructure of the railway section will be upgraded in order to allow for a maximum travel speed of 160 km/h for passenger trains and 120 km/h for freight trains.
The rehabilitation of the Aghires-Poieni section is part of a project for the upgrade the entire Cluj Napoca-Oradea-Episcopia Bihor-Frontiera railway line which is 166.2 km long.
In October, FCC Construccion-Gulermak-CCN and WeBuild-Impresa Pizzarotti & C-Salcef consortiums won two contracts for the upgrade of railway sections the Cluj Napoca-Oradea-Episcopia Bihor line worth a total 4.5 billion lei.
