In net terms, the minimum wage will increase by 22.2%, or 339 lei, reaching 1,863 lei, the government said in a press release on Thursday.

Full-time workers earning the minimum wage will benefit from a 200 lei allowance which will be exempt from taxes and social contributions, an emergency ordinance published on the finance ministry’s website shows.

In the construction sector, the minimum wage will rise to 4,000 lei from 3,000 lei as of January 1.

The government last raised the minimum gross salary in January, to 2,550 lei per month from 2,230 lei.

In 2023, about 2.2 million employees will directly benefit from the increase of the minimum gross salary to 3,000 lei.

Romania’s workforce tallied roughly 7.75 million employees in 2021, according to data from the statistics office.
