October 14 (SeeNews) - Romania is extending the state of alert introduced due to the coronavirus pandemic by 30 days as from October 15 due to a rise in the number of new cases of Covid-19, the government announced.
As of October 15, all indoor and outdoor private events such as weddings and baptisms will be banned and wearing protective masks in all public spaces will become mandatory in towns where the average rate of infections exceeds three cases per 1,000 inhabitants over a 14-days period, the government said in a statement on Tuesday evening.
On October 7, the government recommended the closure of indoor restaurants in areas in which number of infections exceeds 1.5 per 1,000 inhabitants over a 14-days period. As a result, Bucharest prefecture decided to shut down indoor restaurants, theatres and cinemas.
On Tuesday, Romanian authorities reported 3,102 new cases of Covid-19 registered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total count to 160,461. The death toll climbed to 5,535, the latest data from the health ministry showed.
