The store, Penny's 379th in the country, will operate 24/7 starting on May 29 in the capital Bucharest, the company said in a press release.

The new location spans 349 sq m and is equipped with 5,000 sensors that facilitate the functioning of the self-checkout system. It marks Penny Romania's third new store of 2024, after the ones opened in Moinesti and Nusfalau.

REWE entered the Romanian market in 2005. The company employs 7,300 people in the country and has four logistics centres - in Stefanestii de Jos, Turda, Filiasi, and Bacau, which serve its network of stores.
