June 10 (SeeNews) - China's Power Construction Corporation (Powerchina) plans to complete the construction of Strazevica tunnel, part of Belgrade bypass road, next year, Serbia's infrastructure ministry said.
Powerchina has completed the breakthrough of the left tube of the Strazevica tunnel that lies on the 20 km-long Ostruznica-Bubanj Potok section of the bypass road, the ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
"The section from Ostruznica to Bubanj Potok will be finished in 2022, which will additionally relieve traffic in the city," infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said at the ceremony marking the completion of the left tube breakthrough.
Powerchina completed the breakthrough 225 days ahead of the agreed deadline, China's ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo said at the ceremony.
Powerchina and Azeri civil engineering company Azvirt started construction works on Ostruznica-Bubanj Potok, also known as Sector B, in July 2018. In April, Serbia signed a memorandum of understanding with the two companies for the construction of the Bubanj Potok-Pancevo stretch of Belgrade bypass road, known as Sector C.
