November 28 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Moldova more than trebled on the year in the first nine months of 2022, reaching 259,100, the country's statistical office said on Monday.
As much as 47% of 121,800 foreign tourists who visited the country during the first quarter arrived from Ukraine,14.9% came from Romania, 6% came from the U.S., while Russian tourists accounted for 3.2%, the statistical office, BNS, said in a statement.
Tourists booked 1.052 million overnights in Moldova during January-September, almost double on the year. Foreign tourists booked 311,700 overnights, over four times higher on the year.
During the first nine months, the average length of stay of a Moldovan tourist in the accommodation facilities in the country was 6.4 days, while foreign tourists stayed for 3.6 days on average.
The number of tourists staying in Moldova doubled in 2021, reaching 178,200.
