February 17 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists visiting Moldova rose by 9.8% on the year to 306,307 in 2016, the statistics bureau, BNS, said on Friday.
A quarter of the nearly 121,340 foreign tourists who visited the country during 2016 came from Romania, 13.5% came from Ukraine and Russian tourists accounted for 8%, the statistics bureau said in a statement.
Tourists booked 1.48 million overnights in Moldova in 2016, down 1.7% from a year earlier. Foreign tourists booked 246,470 overnights, 2.6% less than in 2015.
The statistics bureau did not provide monthly figures.
The number of tourists staying in Moldova dropped by 1.5% on the year to 278,855 in 2015. Tourists booked 1.505 million overnights in Moldova in 2015, down 0.6% on the year.
