December 18 (SeeNews) - Supermarket chain Lidl Bulgaria, a unit of Germany's Schwarz Group, said it has opened two new stores in the country, in the town of Elin Pelin and the city of Dobrich.
The stores, which are the chain’s first in the central western town of Elin Pelin and second in Dobrich, in the northeastern part of the country, take Lidl Bulgaria's network to 124 locations, the company said in separate press releases over the weekend, without disclosing the size of the investments.
Both stores have sales halls with an area of 1,400 square metres and are located in retail parks, offering 300 parking spots in Elin Pelin and 340 spaces in Dobrich. The Elin Pelin site has created nearly 20 new jobs, Lidl said.
This year, Lidl Bulgaria continued to expand its retail network by opening eight stores and entering three new markets - Karlovo, Sunny Beach and Elin Pelin, while also expanding its warehouse in the village of Ravno Pole, the company said.
Earlier this month, Lidl opened its 10th store in the south-central city of Plovdiv, following an investment of over 15 million levs ($8.4 million/7.7 million euro).
Lidl is one of Europe's largest food retailers and has operations in 31 countries. In Bulgaria, the chain has stores in 54 towns and cities, with over 4,000 employees.
