February 24 (SeeNews) - Supermarket chain Lidl Bulgaria, a unit of German discount store operator Lidl Stiftung & Co, said it expanded its logistics and distribution centre in the village of Ravno Pole near Sofia, an investment worth 90 million levs ($48.85 million/46.02 million euro).
The investment project included the construction of 16,000 sq m of space, bringing the total area of the warehouse to 53,000 sq m, Lidl Bulgaria said in a statement on Thursday.
Following the expansion, the logistics centre in Ravno Pole is now Lidl's largest base in the country.
The project created 40 jobs, with a total of 230 people currently employed at the warehouse. The new investment will improve efficiency and optimize operations, the company added.
The expansion was carried out over two years and overseen by local construction company Argogroup Exact. Lidl announced the project in early 2021, saying the newly-built space would total 18,000 sq m.
Lidl Bulgaria operates 115 stores in 51 cities across Bulgaria, along with two logistics centres. The base in Ravno Pole supplies 58 of those stores, while the company's other warehouse is located in the southeastern region of Yambol.
