SOFIA (Bulgaria), May 18 (SeeNews) – The operations of wood products manufacturer Kronospan Bulgaria, a unit of Austria’s Kronospan, will be suspended if by June 30 it fails to adopt measures to comply with the air quality requirements, the environment ministry said on Thursday.
The ban will continue until the company complies with the requirements, the environment ministry said in a press release following a meeting between environment minister Neno Dimov and Asen Nikov, CEO of Kronospan Bulgaria.
To meet the requirements, Kronospan Bulgaria plans to build two indoor storage facilities, as well as to cover the conveyor belts used to transport sawdust left as a byproduct of the company’s operations.
In January, the economy ministry said Kronospan Bulgaria will invest 42.6 million levs ($24.2 million/21.8 million euro) in expanding the capacity of its production facilities.
Burgas-based Kronospan is among the leading manufacturer of wood products for the furniture industry on the Bulgarian market.
