April 23 (SeeNews) - Kosovo's government has decided to allocate around 20 million euro ($24 million) to support businesses and individuals affected by the coronavirus crisis, the prime minister's office said.
The funding, part of country's economic recovery programme for 2021, aims to support businesses, the health sector, and pension and social schemes, the prime minister's office said in a statement on Wednesday following a government meeting.
A total of 6 million euro will go to subsidize the payment of workers’ wages and rents, the government said, adding that 5.26 million euro has been allocated to allowances in the health and safety sector for April and May 2021. The government has also allocated 8.5 million euro to cover allowances for social and pension schemes.
The country confirmed 382 coronavirus cases including five deaths on Thursday, health ministry data shows.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kosovo's gross domestic product is expected to increase by 4.5% this year. The country's economic output declined by an estimated 6% last year, the IMF said in the April edition of its World Economic Outlook report.
