June 23 (SeeNews) - Greek civil engineering group Aktor has hired 19 subcontractors and has intensified the construction works in the eastern part of Transport Corridor X, near the Bulgarian border, the Sector East Project Manager of Serbian company Koridori Srbije, Dusan Mijuk, said on Friday.
The construction works were delayed due to the need to modify the project documentation for 23 out of a total of 27 slopes along the route, which have eroded due to unfavourable weather conditions, Mijuk said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian news agency Tanjug.
Currently, a total of 80 workers and 70 machines are active on the construction of the eastern part of Corridor X, Mijuk said.
Koridori Srbije plans to put into operation a 24 km Crvena Reka-Stanicenje section of the Corridor in the middle of July, while another 30 km between Pirot and the Bulgarian border will be launched in September, he noted.
Earlier this month, Koridori Srbije, a company set-up by the Serbian government to manage works along corridors X and XI, said that the most serious problems faced by the firm are related to the construction of the Bancarevo-Crvena reka section in the eastern part of Corridor X and of the tunnels in the south of Serbia.
In February, Serbia's infrastructure ministry said Greek civil engineering group Aktor has proposed a new plan for the construction of four sections. The government deemed the plan unsatisfactory and unrealistic back then.
The Greek company is building the Prosek-Crvena Reka, Crvena Reka-Ciflik, Stanicenje-Pirot sections and Dimitrovgrad bypass of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad motorway, part of pan-European Corridor X. Aktor is in charge of building two of three lots of the Prosek-Crvena Reka sections in consortium with Italian sector player Terna. In the Dimitrovgrad bypass project, Aktor is also executing two of three lots.
Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. In Serbia, the project includes the construction of Belgrade bypass motorway, as well as two separate sections, linking Nis to Merdare and to the border with Bulgaria.
