February 21 (SeeNews) - German hard discount retailer Lidl plans to open about 20 stores in Montenegro by 2024, Montenegrin economic development minister Jakov Milatovic said.
"Lidl plans to hire about 1,000 employees. First, they will open a logistics centre in Podgorica and will develop a network of some 20 stores," Milatovic said, as seen in a video file posted on the website of public broadcaster RTCG on Saturday.
According to media reports, Lidl acquired the 13,200 square-metre land plot of the former Radoje Dakic factory in Podgorica for 3.7 million euro ($4.2 million) through Montenegrin company MMS Property Solutions in January.
MMS Property Solutions is fully owned by German company WE-International Zweite, the owner of the Bosnian unit of Lidl, according to data by Montenegro's business register. Dragan Cigoja, the sales and logistics director of Lidl Serbia, is the legal representative of MMS Property Solutions.
