The first factory involves the relocation of Karl Mayer’s sewing needle production unit in Asia to the city of Baia Mare, on the former IMMUM industrial site, local information portal 2mnews reported on Thursday.
The company has already rented a production hall and aims to start construction soon, Patrick Mock, general manager at Karl Mayer Romania said in a live broadcast published by the Maramures county council president Ionel Bogdan on social media on Thursday.
The second stage of the investment involves the opening of a maintenance centre for the machines manufactured by Karl Mayer, according to 2mnews. The maintenance centre will also be located in Baia Mare.
In the final stage of this investment programme Karl Mayer plans to build a computer numerical control machine (CNC) factory for the textile industry spanning approximately 12 hectares in Grosi, Maramures county. The site will require the largest volume of the total investment planned.
Karl Mayer’s investment in Romania will create around 700 new jobs.
Established in 1937, Karl Mayer has subsidiaries in the USA, India, Italy, Hong Kong, Japan, China, Bangladesh and Switzerland as well as agencies all over the world, employing over 3,100 people in total.
Maramures county council representatives did not respond to a SeeNews request for comment by the time this article was published.
