The grant is part of a GIZ programme to improve Albanian water supply and sanitation services, the government said in a press release on Wednesday.

The programme aims to aid the water sector reform in Albania by creating strategic documents such as the new water sector law, promoting digitalisation, improving water quality monitoring through laboratory installations or upgrades, wastewater treatment, and fostering transparency, according to GIZ.

In Albanian cities, over 80% of households have access to the drinking water supply network, while in rural areas, only 50% have access to drinking water in their homes.
