TIRANA (Albania), November 24 (SeeNews) – The German government plans to set up a 58.2 million euro ($69 million) fund to foster Albania's economic development in the next two years, the German embassy in the EU candidate country said on Tuesday.
The commitment includes joint projects to improve water network infrastructure, as well as support for EU accession negotiations in chapters covering the economy, German ambassador to Albania Peter Zingraf said in a statement posted on Facebook.
“We encourage Albania to consistently pursue the reform path towards the EU, especially judicial reform and the fight against organised crime and corruption,” Zingraf added.
In early July, the European Commission presented to the European Union member states the draft negotiating framework for Albania, thus paving the way to the formal opening of the accession negotiations with the Balkan country.
The European Council granted the status of EU candidate member state to Albania in 2014.
