February 28 (SeeNews) - German non-food discount retailer Tedi is contemplating an expansion in Southeast Europe (SEE) as it prepares to open its first store in Bulgaria on March 9, the company told SeeNews on Tuesday.
Ted, which is also active in Romania, Slovenia and Croatia, targets the launch of up to ten other stores in Bulgaria over the next twelve months, a company representative said in an emailed response to a SeeNews enquiry.
For the new Bulgarian stores, the retailer will seek locations with a catchment area of around 50,000 inhabitants.
Its first store, in the town of Pernik near Sofia, will span a total sales area of 869 sq m.
Based in Dortmund and launched in Germany in 2004, Tedi employs over 31,500 staff and operates more than 2,875 stores across 13 European countries, including Austria, Slovakia, Spain, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Portugal. Its overseas expansion began in 2012 with its first store in Slovenia, according to information on Tedi's website.
