August 22 (SeeNews) - Germany-based global ordering and delivery platform Delivery Hero Group, present in Romania through foodpanda, said on Wednesday it has acquired Romanian food delivery company hipMenu for an undisclosed sum.
With this transaction, Delivery Hero aims to give Romanians access to the largest variety of restaurants in over 10 cities across the country and become the leader on the online orders market in Bucharest, Cluj, Timisoara, Oradea, Brasov and Iasi, it said in a press release.

"With the acquisition of hipMenu, Delivery Hero strengthens its market leadership position in Romania, and keeps its promise to customers that they will continue to offer the most memorable online food ordering experience," Delivery Hero CEO for Central Europe and East, Gabor Szorad, said.
Launched in 2013 in Cluj-Napoca, the hipMenu.ro platform currently brings together over 300 restaurants in Cluj, Bucharest, Oradea and Timisoara.
"HipMenu's business has evolved rapidly at a local level and, through its association with Delivery Hero, it will benefit from the resources needed to continue to develop and strengthen its leadership position in the cities where it operates," hipMenu co-founder, Dan Klausmeier, said.
According to the group's representatives, Delivery Hero will continue to make significant investments on the Romanian market, with the expansion of foodpanda and hipMenu businesses across the country.
Foodpanda, a part of the Delivery Hero group present on the Romanian market since 2013, is collaborating with more than 500 restaurants in 10 cities across the country.
Delivery Hero is one of the largest global ordering and delivery platforms. Its services can be accessed online and via mobile in over 40 countries in Europe, Eastern and Northern Africa, Latin America and the Asia Pacific region.
In Romania, Delivery Hero is present through the foodpanda and hipMenu brands. The company has its headquarters in Berlin and has over 14,000 employees.
