FDI in Romania soars 34% in Jan-April

June 13 (SeeNews) - Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Romania rose to 3.23 billion euro ($3.49 billion) in the first four months of 2024, from 2.408 billion euro in the same period last year, the central bank said on Thursday.

Net equity investment, including the estimated net reinvestment of earnings, totalled 3.014 billion euro in the first four months of this year, while net intercompany lending amounted to 216 million euro, the central bank said in a balance of payments report, citing provisional data.

In April alone, FDI in Romania totalled 1.135 billion euro, up from 321 million euro recorded in the year-ago period.

The number of new businesses with foreign capital established in the first three months of 2024 in Romania inched up by 0.9% on the year to 2,308, according to data published by the National Trade Register Office.

Romania ranked 17th in the ranking of the most attractive emerging markets for FDI by January 2024, according to a survey of global business executives published by global management consultancy Kearney in April.

In 2023, FDI in Romania totalled 6.587 billion euro, down 34%.
