September 8 (SeeNews) - The European Union has lifted the aviation safeguard clause imposed on Bulgaria, the Bulgarian state news agency BTA reported on Monday. “With the decision for the repeal of European Commission Regulation 1962/2006, which will be published in the Official Journal of the EU, the Bulgarian airlines become equal partners in the EU’s internal market," BTA quoted the Permanent Representation of Bulgaria to the EU as saying. Officials of the Representation in Bulgaria were not immediately available to comment. The executive European Commission partially excluded Bulgaria from the benefits of the EU's internal aviation market in December 2006 following an inspection performed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The inspection identified shortcomings in the administrative capacity of the Bulgarian Civil Aviation Authorities (CAA) in the field of safety oversight in general, and for the certification of airworthiness and maintenance of aircraft. Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007.
