December 21 (SeeNews) - The European Commission has decided to recognise COVID-19 certificates issued by Montenegro as equivalent to the EU Digital COVID Certificate, it said on Tuesday.
Holders of certificates issued by Montenegro will be able to use them under the same conditions as holders of an EU Digital COVID Certificate do, while Montenegro's government also agreed to accept the EU Digital COVID Certificate, EC said in a statement.
"This year has been a successful one when it comes to the rollout of EU Digital COVID Certificate: 60 countries and territories in five continents are now connected to our system. We have seen the need and the added value of such certificate to travel safely, also with COVID-19 variants, it will continue to serve in the future," Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said.
The decisions enter into force as of December 22.
Last month, the EU Commission also decided to recognise COVID-19 certificates issued by non-EU member states Serbia and Moldova, while certificates issued by North Macedonia and Albania were recognised as equivalent in August and September, respectively.
