November 13 (SeeNews) - The European Commission adopted a 103.3 million euro ($122 million) financial assistance package to help Albania implement reforms in its EU accession process and manage the social and economic impact of the Covid-19 crisis, the delegation of the EU to Albania said.
With the package, the EU will help Albania strengthen the rule of law and the fight against organised crime and corruption, establish a clear property rights framework and improve the capacity of the public sector to respond to citizens’ and businesses’ needs, the delegation of the EU to Albania said in a statement on Thursday.
Furthermore, the package includes financing for additional Covid-19 related measures for the businesses and the overall economy.
"The European Union continues to stand by Albania. In the face of the COVID-19 crisis, we have made adjustments to the existing funding to help Albania withstand the current social and economic challenges. At the same time, the EU funds aim at supporting the key reforms Albania needs to implement to move forward on its European path,” EU commissioner for neighbourhood and enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, said in the statement.
