April 10 (SeeNews) - U.S.-based International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre and colocation provider Equinix has opened its second data centre in the Bulgarian capital Sofia following a $19 million (16.9 million euro) investment on April 9, Equinix Bulgaria said on Wednesday.
The new IBX data centre will support Bulgarian companies in the digital transformation of their business, ensuring interconnectivity with partners, easy transition to cloud services and access to over 52 international markets through the Platform Equinix service, the Bulgarian unit of the colocation provider said in a press release.
The data centre services can also attract international companies seeking expansion in the region, providing a stable ground for their business.
Equinix Bulgaria launched the expansion project in June as a green-field investment.
In Bulgaria, Equinix has over a hundred clients, mostly providers of cloud services, network operators, big corporations and media companies. They use the Equinix colocation platform which links 200 data centres globally.
Interconnection between business partners in Europe is expected to rise by 44 % per year and exceed 1450 TBps in 2020, or more than 29% of its speed on a global scale.
