"With a specific focus on fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) customers, Bosis doo is particularly well-suited to complement our regional strategy, which emphasizes sustainable performance packaging and targets further growth opportunities in the region," DS Smith said in a statement on Friday.

"DS Smith and Bosis doo will leverage their collective strengths and expertise to offer innovative packaging solutions," according to the statement.

DS Smith announced it agreed to acquire Bosis in August 2023. The family-owned Serbian company was founded in 1982 and employs 140 workers at its site in Valjevo, some 100 km south of the capital Belgrade.

"With the acquisition of Bosis doo, our total packaging operations in eastern Europe will comprise 30 box plants and additional facilities, employing more than 7,000 people in the region," DS Smith said.

It added its key area is plastic replacement, pointing out to its recently achieved milestone of over 762 million units of plastic replaced since March 2020.

In December, DS Smith said it planned to invest 16 million euro ($17.3 million) in new innovative packaging equipment for fast-moving consumer goods and automated packaging lines at its existing production plant in Serbia’s southern city of Krusevac.

DS Smith operates in more than 30 countries and employs over 30,000 people, according to its website.

It began its operations in Serbia in 2004. Elsewhere in southeastern Europe, DS Smith is present in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Greece and Turkey.
