Dr. Oetker Romania's soy business sale probed by watchdog

May 22 (SeeNews) - Romania's competition authority said on Wednesday that it is looking into the agreed takeover of Dr. Oetker Romania's soy product assets by Austria-based The New Originals Company GmbH.

The Competition Council will assess the terms of the notified transaction in accordance with current legislation to determine whether it can be granted clearance, it said in a press release.

Dr. Oetker Romania produces ingredients for cakes, dessert powder, pizza, frozen snacks and preservatives for vegetables and fruits, as well as soy-based products. It currently retails its soy products under the Inedit brand. In 2023, Dr. Oetker Romania booked a net profit of 33.1 million lei ($7.21 million/6.65 million euro) on revenue of 438.2 million lei, according to data from Romania's finance ministry.

The biggest shareholders of The New Originals Company GmbH are Raiffeisen Beteiligungsholding GmbH, with a 42.5% stake, and Raiffeisen OOe Invest GmbH & Co OG, with a stake of 21.39%, according to Austrian company data aggregator FirmenABC.
