April 12 (SeeNews) - Croatian steel mill ABS Sisak, part of the Danieli Group, said on Friday it plans to raise its output to 27,000 tonnes per month over the next 15 months while increasing headcount to 200-250 from around 140 at present.
The steel mill in the central town of Sisak, which has absorbed 25 million euro ($32.3 million) in investments so far, was inaugurated on Friday in the presence of executives from the Danieli Group and its steelmaking division, ABS, the Croatian company said in a statement.
In June, ABS formalized the acquisition from U.S. group Commercial Metals Company of the steelmaking plant in Sisak, which has been renamed to ABS Sisak.
The steel mill has a 900,000 square metre footprint and a strategic location in proximity to local road, energy and railway infrastructure and the Rijeka sea port.
At the moment, the steel mill - which launched production after the ownership changeover in November, currently manufactures special steel, blooms and pipes for the oil and gas industries. It has secured customers for 4,000 tonnes in output per month and is exporting its products to Italy, Germany and Spain.
In pursuit of its business goals, the Italian group plans to continue to implement key projects at the mill, including the modernization of some of the existing capacity - for instance, the continuous casting unit, and the procurement of new equipment like a vacuum degassing unit, the statement said.
