October 13 (SeeNews) - Croatian ICT solutions provider CRATIS announced on Friday that it will establish a new data centre in partnership with local polyethylene films, bags, and packaging manufacturer, Muraplast, located in Varazdin, northern Croatia.
"The first phase of the project was valued at 17 million euro ($18 million), and it has been funded through our own resources and a loan, without any subsidies," a company spokesperson stated in an email to SeeNews.
The data centre offers a 2,000-square-metre IT space and, in its initial phase, will feature 314 server cabinets within cooled areas. The official opening is scheduled for October 24.
It is the largest carrier-neutral data centre in Croatia. Recently, it has been granted Uptime certificates for meeting the highest standards for crucial ICT infrastructure.
Since all of Croatia's existing data centres are concentrated in the capital, Zagreb, which poses a safety risk, as evidenced by a devastating earthquake two years ago, the new centre in Varazdin serves as an optimal disaster recovery site for Zagreb. Consequently, it enhances the overall safety and security of the entire country and positions Varazdin on the global ICT map, the spokesperson said.
