BELGRADE (Serbia), August 6 (SeeNews) - China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) has signed an agreement to start the construction of 26 wastewater treatment plants across Serbia, the infrastructure ministry in Belgrade said.

The plants will be built in 14 Serbian municipalities and the Chinese company will also construct a sewerage network with a total length of 700 km, the infrastructure ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"The Serbian government plans to build communal infrastructure in over 80% of local municipalities in the next five years. We want to invest in communal infrastructure and wastewater treatment plants and make our country significantly cleaner for future generations," infrastructure minister Tomislav Momirovic said.

In February, the Serbian government signed agreements with CRBC for the preparation of project documentation of wastewater treatment facilities in 65 municipalities and cities, as well as rehabilitation or construction of landfills at six locations. The estimated value of the projects will have a total value of 3.2 billion euro ($3.8 billion).

The contracts provide for a 39-month deadline for the construction of each individual project from the date of the issuance of the building permit.
