November 17 (SeeNews) - The Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) said on Friday it has approved a 27 million euro ($29.3 million) loan to Albania to co-finance the establishment of information and communication technology (ICT) “smart labs” in more than 600 schools across the country.
The loan will be supplemented by a 10 million euro grant from the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) and an additional 4 million euro contribution from the government of Albania, CEB said in a press release.
The loan will benefit around 150 000 children and enable capacity building activities for teachers.
The initiative has a strategic focus on students in remote and rural areas where digital educational opportunities are often limited. It aligns with Albania’s national education strategy, which prioritises the development of curricula for digital competences and computer programming skills.
