Bulgaria's unemployment rate edges down to 5.4% in May

June 18 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's registered unemployment rate went down by a monthly 0.24 percentage points to 5.4% in May, the Employment Agency said on Tuesday.

At the end of last month, there were 154,271 registered jobless people in the country, or 6,778 fewer than in April, the government agency said in a monthly report.

In May alone, the agency registered 18,376 unemployed people, which was 17.1% lower than a month earlier.

Some 17,387 jobless people started work with the help of labour offices in the month under review, or 1,151 more than in April.

There were 11,472 job vacancies on the primary labour market in May, down from 15,636 registered in April, the agency added. The highest percentage of vacancies was reported in the manufacturing industry with 24.9%, followed by trade with 16.7%, hospitality and catering with 11.6%, public administration with 11.2%, construction with 5.5% and administrative and auxiliary activities with 4.8%.
