July 2 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's consolidated budget is expected to be in deficit of some 600 million levs ($329.6 million/306.8 million euro) in the first half of 2024, equivalent to 0.3% of the gross domestic product (GDP) projected for the year, the finance ministry said, quoting preliminary data.

Bulgaria's minfin sees end-June budget gap at 307 mln euro

In the January-June period last year, Bulgaria's consolidated budget was in surplus of 0.1% of the 2023 GDP, the ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Consolidated budget expenditure is seen at some 35.1 billion levs as of the end of June, compared to 31.2 billion levs a year earlier. The rise is mainly driven by higher social costs such as pension payments, as well as personnel expenses.

Consolidated budget revenue is projected at 34.5 billion levs, up 9.8% year-on-year on the back of higher tax revenue and aid and donations.

Bulgaria's consolidated budget was in surplus of 146.9 million levs at the end of May, equivalent to 0.1% of the forecast 2024 GDP, the finance ministry said in a separate statement on Friday.
